PRODUCT GUIDE

Recommended Products

The powerful benefits of cannabis can be harnessed through a variety of products, which are available in a selection of cannabinoids (the main therapeutic plant compounds). Each product is specially formulated in a manner that allows it to reach its maximum therapeutic potential for treating a particular condition. For example, suppositories allow THC to be taken in very high doses that normally would not be tolerated, if taken orally.

Strict quality control measures are essential for formulating safe and effective products that meet a medical standard. We always look for a manufacturer that uses only the highest-quality strains, grown organically in fertile soil. It is also important to source products that are safely extracted from marijuana plant flowers and regularly tested for potency and purity.

Full-extract cannabis oil (FECO) allows complementary plant compounds to remain intact and work more effectively in unison – as per the “entourage effect”. We will guide you to source reputable products. To start, here are the types of products available:

A Guide to Cannabinoids

For medical marijuana products to work safely and effectively, each medical condition or ailment needs to be carefully targeted by a specific cannabinoid, or combination thereof. Below is a table summary of the conditions that may benefit from each cannabinoid. An explanation of each compound follows, along with available products.

Therapeutic benefits of medical cannabis per cannabinoid

Bear in mind that certain conditions require specific cannabinoid products. Skin conditions, for example, may benefit from THC Unscented Topical balm, but not a THC Tincture. For specific advice on recommended products for a particular condition, please visit our Treatment Guidelines or simply get in touch via the contact form.

Remember that, according to the “entourage effect”, all marijuana plant compounds – cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and others – work in synergy to create the most beneficial therapeutic effect. Hence, consumers should accept nothing less than full-extract cannabis oil (FECO) products. Cannabis Oil explains how to source a high-quality product.

CANNABIDIOL (CBD)

Cannabidiol oil is extracted from the flowers of an organically-grown CBD-rich cannabis plant, via a method that keeps complementary, minor cannabinoids and other plant compounds intact. CBD assists in treating a wide-range of specific conditions, but also promotes general health and wellbeing. Products-derived from high-CBD strains are not to be confused with nutraceutical-type “hemp” supplements, which have little-to-no medicinal qualities. Unlike hemp extracts, CBD full-extract cannabis oil (FECO) contains a minor quantity of THC to render it effective. CBD is non-psychoactive and is safe for use in adults, children and pets alike. Associated products: Tincture; Capsules.

CANNABIGEROL (CBG)

Cannabigerol oil is extracted from the flowers of an organically-grown marijuana plant with high-CBG content, via a method that keeps complementary, minor cannabinoids intact. It is an up-and-coming cannabinoid, generally found in small quantities, but its therapeutic potential is enormous. CBG is non-psychoactive and is safe for use in adults, children and pets alike.

Associated products: Tincture; Unscented Topical.

TETRAHYDROCANNABINOLIC ACID (THCA)

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid oil is extracted from the raw flowers of an organically-grown THCA-rich cannabis plant, via a method that keeps complementary, minor cannabinoids intact. THCA is the non-psychoactive precursor to THC, found in raw and live cannabis. This compound is beginning to demonstrate immense therapeutic potential, despite the infancy of its research. People who are prone to anxiety and averse to the psychoactive effect of THC should consider substituting it with THCA.

Associated product: Tincture.

TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL (THC)

Tetrahydrocannabinol oil is extracted from the flowers of an organically-grown high-THC cannabis plant, via a method that keeps complementary, minor cannabinoids intact. THC is the most famous marijuana compound due to its psychoactive effect or “high”. However, this can be avoided by micro-dosing and allowing the body to build up tolerance over a short period. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to dosing THC – everyone is uniquely affected. Most people need to get on with their daily lives and cannot afford to be intoxicated. In children and pets, we want to avoid this effect entirely. Persons who suffer from anxiety should approach THC with caution and consider suppositories (for very high doses) or substitute it with THCA.

Associated products: Tincture; Capsules; Suppositories; Scented & Unscented Topicals; Vape Concentrates.

CANNABINOL (CBN)

Cannabinol oil is found in trace amounts in raw cannabis. It is formed via the breakdown of other cannabinoids due to oxidation, which can occur naturally through ageing or by the application of heat. The most notable metabolic process in its formation is the decarboxylation of THCA into THC, which then degrades further into CBN. It is branded as the “sleepy cannabinoid”, although the presence of THC and terpenes are believed to be important contributors to this sedative effect. CBN’s most prominent therapeutic application is sleep – an essential element for maintaining health and combating disease. It is known to be mildly psychoactive.

Associated product: Tincture.

THC|CBD (1:1)

THC|CBD “1-to-1”oil has been extracted from the flowers of an organically-grown marijuana strain that has a naturally-occurring 1:1 ratio of tetrahydrocannabinol-to-cannabidiol. A balanced cannabinoid ratio offers the “best of both worlds” – the benefits of both THC and CBD in their natural form – which can be of particular benefit to certain conditions. It is known to be mildly psychoactive.

Associated product: Tincture.
