In today’s modern society, women with their increased responsibilities are under immense pressure in their daily lives. Pre Menstrual Stress (PMS) and Menopause, become painful distractions to everyday life and can hinder ordinary tasks. GP’s are quick to prescribe addictive painkillers and anti-inflammatories with the likes of Aspirin or Ibuprofen and Naproxen. Menopausal and PMS symptoms include, abdominal cramps, headaches, back pain, stress, anxiety, mood swings, erratic sleep and depression.

Natural medicinal cannabis oil remedies were the go-to to treat “women’s conditions” for centuries prior to cannabis prohibition. In recent year’s medical cannabis, mainly cannabis oils are making a comeback as a very effective natural replacement to harsh western medicines mainly painkillers, anti-inflammatories, anti-depressants and sleeping pills with their terrible side effects.

Medical cannabis has been known to effectively treat the following ailments and conditions experienced by women.

  • Ovarian and Breast cancer
  • Pre-menstrual Stress Symptoms
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Pain, including, arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis
  • Depression Anxiety Stress
  • Erratic sleep
  • Mood swings
Medical Cannabis and the Endocrine System

The role of the endocannabinoid system in the regulation of endocrine function and in the control of energy balance in women.

The endocannabinoid system has been recently recognized as an important modulatory system in the function of brain, endocrine, and immune tissues. It appears to play a very important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to reproductive functions, emotions and responses to stress, particularly in women.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is controlled by chemicals that our body produces called endocannabinoids. Our endocannabinoids are responsible for keeping our most critical biological functions in balance such as sleep, appetite, the immune system, pain and more. When the body gets out of balance and moves into a state of stress, endocannabinoids go to work to fix the problem.

Sleep Related to PMS and Menopause

According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation, 67% of women who menstruate toss and turn for two or three days during every menstrual cycle. Not only does a good night’s rest leave us energized and ready to take on the day – sleep also helps us live longer. Studies have consistently proven that lack of sleep leads to a number of health issues. While many women have trouble sleeping during their period due to bloating or back pains, it is also possible to experience insomnia prior to menstruation. Referred to as premenstrual insomnia, women can experience trouble sleeping a day or two before their period begins.

Medical marijuana, specifically cannabis oil CBN, is used as an effective sleep aid.

Breast and Ovarian Cancer

There is extensive mounting evidence that cannabinoids, THC and CBD inhibit tumour growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumours to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids THC and CBD are able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.

A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in oestrogen receptor positive and oestrogen receptor negative breast and ovarian cancer cells showed that it caused cancer cell death while having little effect on normal breast and ovarian cells. Studies of metastatic breast cancer showed that cannabinoids may lessen the growth, number, and spread of tumours.

Some useful tips:

  • Medical cannabis oil taken in higher dosages has been known to cure cancer, see treating cancer treatment guideline.
  • Medical marijuana, cannabis oil, can be used in lessor dosages to ease the symptoms of cancer and or chemo and or radiation.
  • Medical cannabis oil high in CBD can be taken as a cancer preventative measure.
Pain Relief

One of the most common applications for medical marijuana is pain, whether it’s inflammation, headaches, neuropathic pain, muscle soreness, spinal injury, fibromyalgia, arthritis or cramps. Patients have seen varying degrees of success with cannabis in treating various pain-related ailments, depending on the type of pain, the intensity, and the individual’s own physiology.

Oils high in both THC and CBD are used to treat pain related conditions.

Depression, Anxiety, Stress and Mood Swings

With a global increase of medical marijuana use to treat health conditions, advocates and studies are showing that medical marijuana can be used to treat anxiety disorders. Advocates believe that the chemical makeup of cannabis can be highly beneficial in treating anxiety and depression, particularly in women, combatting the emotional rollercoasters experienced during pre-menstrual stress and menopause, as well as depression, anxiety and stress as side effects of breast and ovarian cancer.

Medical marijuana has been used for centuries to treat depression, anxiety, mood swings and stress. More than 400 years ago, cannabis was used to treat depression in India and has since been studied and analysed to determine the medical benefits and advantages for patients. Today, many states across the world have legalized the use of medical marijuana as an effective replacement for generic pharmaceuticals used to treat depression, stress and anxiety, usually accompanied by horrible side effects.
